AICCT was established by Thungela Operations (Pty) Ltd (TOPL) and Anglo American Inyosi Coal (Pty) Ltd (AAIC) in 2007 and it became operational in 2009 as a public benefit organization, funded jointly by the donors on an annual basis, and its sole object is empowering the communities as defined in its Trust Deed.
The intent of the AICCT (Trust) is to implement broad-based socio-economic upliftment programs within the geographic areas in which the mines operate. The Trust is a public benefits organization and is funded by donors on an annual basis. The Trust is headed by a Board of Trustees, which is comprised of independent, donor-appointed and community appointed Trustees. The Trust is a vehicle for community empowerment as defined in its Trust Deed.
The five focus areas for AICCT are Welfare and Humanitarianism, Health Care, Land and Housing, Education and Development Conservation, Environment and Animal Welfare.
